KYBELLA®

KYBELLA® was approved by the FDA in 2015 to address fat cells under the chin. Even with a healthy diet and regular exercise, it can be very difficult to contour the neck and jawline if fat has accumulated under the chin. Submental fat can make us look heavier or older, and is the #1 concern of medical aesthetics patients worldwide. KYBELLA® is a form of deoxycholic acid, a bile acid that is already found in the body. When injected into the fat under the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After reaching your desired aesthetic, further treatment is not expected. Poppi Wellness is happy to provide KYBELLA® at our Hudson Medical Spa, as studies show that people enjoy greater self-esteem and a great deal of relief when the submental region is treated.

Am I a candidate?

Anyone with pinchable fat in the submental area can be treated. However, the decision is made on a case-by-case basis based on a variety of factors. Ideal candidates:

Have a moderate amount of neck fat.

Do not have excessive loose skin in the area

Want to avoid invasive surgery

Have not seen results from diet or exercise

Are not on blood thinning medication and are in good health

Are unhappy with their appearance due to submental fat

How Many Sessions Do I Need?

KYBELLA® doesn’t provide instant results. You'll need multiple sessions to see a difference. KYBELLA® has been the focus of a global clinical development program involving over 20 clinical studies. More than 1600 people were treated with KYBELLA® in these studies. We will create a tailored treatment plan based on your chin profile. At each treatment, you will be given multiple small injections under your chin. Most clients experience full results in 2 to 3 KYBELLA® treatments. For those with more submental fullness, additional treatments may be necessary.

What is the process for KYBELLA® treatment?

During the consultation, the neck, chin, and jowl are assessed. Photographs are taken to document your treatment results. Topical numbing cream is applied and cleaned followed by 10-20 small injections under the chin. The procedure is completely painless, fast, and takes less than 15 minutes.

What’s the average treatment cost?

Cost is dependent on the number of sessions needed to achieve the desired result. Once the fat is gone, it’s gone for good.

Common side effects from KYBELLA® may include:

  • Swelling: You must expect swelling to happen for about a week. It is usually mild to moderate and can be covered easily with a scarf. Ice is encouraged for 24 hours post-injection, followed by heat.

  • Redness: Redness comes with inflammation and dissipates quickly.

  • Numbness: Uncommon

  • Itching: If you tolerate antihistamines, it is advisable to take one before your appointment.

  • Slight Bruising: Keep arnica gel on hand and apply topically.

  • Bleeding: Uncommon

  • Mild Pain: You may take OTC pain relievers.

  • Hard Skin Around Injection Area: Hard skin is not an adverse reaction and will dissipate over a few days; it is somewhat uncommon.

  • Headache + Nausea: Headache and nausea occur due to immune system activation, and phase 1 detox. During phase 1, toxins are released from fat cells and if not appropriately removed from the body can make you ill. Toxins must be conjugated and flushed out. Glutathione aids in phase II detox by grabbing onto the toxin and making it inert. Phase III detox includes the physical removal of the substance from the body mainly through the GI system, urine, and sweat.

How long does swelling last?

Swelling is usually mild to moderate and typically lasts five to seven days. It is most noticeable after the first treatment session when there is the largest amount of fat cells are dissolved. Swelling is an expected inflammatory reaction and varies based on the amount injected. Each subsequent treatment will cause less inflammation and less swelling.
